Active blogging January 2, 2008

I am surprised to see the increasing number of bloggers around me. Last Sunday, I have been to Chennai and I found that one of close friend is an avid blogger and has inspired two of his other friends also to start blogging. Today morning, one of my colleague was telling about his sinus surgery he underwent recently. Later, to my surprise I received his blog URL where the last post was a detailed description of his hospital experiences.
It must be more than two years since I had my first blog. I had a habit of creating blogs and then discarding them, mostly due to my laziness to put something interesting in there. I still havent figured out the purpose of this blog well. Hope within few days that will be done and I think its high time I wrote something regularly in here.

Denis Radencovic of three.eight.one studios has written about the first sketches of logos he had made for wordpress.
Nice ones, yea, WP is missing something really. Its time they did a redesign of their identities, including websites. Nice work by Denis.
Just like someone commented, I too did not like the use of type.

Links Roundup April 3, 2006

Ok guys, after a long time comes this post. I’ve been a kinda lazy, and was into a more interesting thing called orkut. After a long time, I cud see my collegemates active in a web 2.0 thing[Of course gmail was already there with them]. It has been about a year since I joined orkut, and was not much active there. Now suddenly my friends began to flock together there at orkut and I too joined them in the fray. It was fun, and was a major discussion topic even in college where such net/geeky things were taboo.
So what should this post be about? I haven’t decided yet. I have given the heading ‘Links Roundup’ already. I have a collection right now at hand.
Like the way I stayed away from this blog, I was off from my regular places (like del.icio.us, popurls, digg etc and blogs) also. The only thing that was regular was deviantart.com which has become nothing less than a passion these days. Thehot news is that deviantart is going to be bought by myspace.com.
Ok, here I give you the links. Most of them are old
pardon me, but they are eally interesting. Here we go.
Design Resource Collection
The first thing is a wonderful website created by Gustavo Machado. Designeducation.ca features about seven main categories like general, illustration, advertising/design, photography, typography etc with several subcategories in each section. Each section is rich with one of the web’s most comprehensive collection of resources and is growing everyday. And you can be a part of it by contributing/submitting a site that you have noticed good in resources. Apart from links, there is a big collection of ebooks relating to various subjects like branding/corporate identity, user-centered design etc. It also features other topics like Industrial design, Fashion design etc.
So go there and have a look around.
SEO Tools Collection
Meanwhile here we have a great collection of SEO tools at seocompany.ca. They have been ranked accordingly and a total of 151 tools have been featured. You can submit your tool (it will feature in their list if your tool is approved by the team) against a refundable review fee of $5.
Free Fonts
Vitaly Friedman has written about 25 best free quality fonts in this post. I have noticed this post long ago and wanted to write about it but couldnt do it till now. His post has been helpful to me, and now I think I have done paid back the debt (but only in parts
) to him by telling everyone about his beautiful collection. Its just awesome, just go there and choose your pick.
With this we have come to the end of a boring lecture [yaaaawwwnn....] ha!
Meanwhile, I am testing a new product called swicki. Will tell you the results in the next post.
Edit(4th July): The site designeducation.ca is up again.
Love Letters, 300 of them February 9, 2006

Have you ever loved someone? So many have sang about the greatness of this mysterious feeling. Here I stumbled upon a site featuring love letters, actual ones, classified into different categories and arranged chronologically.
Asia shows us her feelings open through about 300 love letters she had written in this post. Each one is an image, mostly written on some notebook page. They often inspire and bring back some of our memories. The letters are beautiful.
Well, what about you? Have you ever written one to your love? Or to anyone expressing what you felt about them? Maybe its too late you did so. Go ahead, write something and send it. These days you lose your friends only because they dont have an email ID/web contact. But nothing equals a downpour of your emotions into a piece of paper.
It had been a long time I posted something here. Well, its festival season in college and so much of designing work around and a bit busy. Also, I still haven’t answered the basic questions about the existence, possibilities and purpose of this blog to myself.
Images for your work January 19, 2006

For most of my designs, I have used images from stock xchng. It is a great place for free stock images. Using a pefect image in your design and then building the design based on that image gives your work a professional touch. Before & After Magazine has a free tutorial, an excellent one on how to pick the right colour based on your image for free download from their site.
Meanwhile I found these sites detailing the sources for images.
Robin Good has written in detail about stock photo sites in his article.
Graphics ‘N Graphic design has a comprehensive list of sites that provide images free of cost.
Project Zen features a good list of sites that offer free and cheap images. Get it here.
